"When Dinosaur gave me the opportunity to do something at Cheap Cheap, I was attempting
to make sense of an occult encounter I had whilst failing to make a previous work with two
friends. I made a re-enactment video and a lengthy chaotic text, which included large chunks
of wikipedia entries. I was trying to figure out what the entity had told us.
Too-much text scrolled past on a tiny monitor on the floor, the large floating head of a
demiurge rotated in the centre. The video was projected onto it like thoughts passing through
its mind, not knowing it wasn’t the only creator at the centre of its own universe.
I bought a giant balloon and me and Dinosaur paper matched it in the gallery. I have a
tendency to take forever doing things and remember Dinosaur finishing it for me so I could
complete the video. The day I arrived with said video I was still trying to render it, Dinosaur
was patiently trying to help and set things up but the fact remained, I hadn’t left enough time.
My laptop was old and slow, and we didn’t know if we would have a video to play. I kept
changing tiny insignificant details of the video, and I only saw Dinosaur visibly stressed and
tired towards the very end haha. During the opening the projector kept overheating and
going black and white for periods of time seemingly on a whim.
Catherine, one of the protagonists in the original debacle, did a performance at the opening.
She was trying to make the room talk to itself like Alvin Lucier, but the room was not the
same as her sitting room at home, it was a partially sound proofed brick room so it spoke
quite differently. This was freaking her out because it didn’t behave the way it was supposed
to. I followed her instructions, holding two phones recording on one, playing back on the
other, looping and looping, not really knowing what I was doing, but happily pressing
buttons. Determinedly trying to manifest things we didn’t understand, oblivious to anything
beyond it. We had gone demiurgic." - Chloe Langlois 2023
